GitHub gives verified teachers on GitHub Education free access to Copilot Pro, its paid individual Copilot plan. The same free access is also available to maintainers of popular open-source repositories.
To apply for teacher benefits, GitHub requires applicants to be an educator, faculty member or researcher with a verifiable school-issued email address and documents proving school affiliation. GitHub reevaluates eligibility every month, and free access granted this way cannot be cancelled.

How to redeem
- 1Apply to GitHub Education as a teacher from github.com/settings/education/benefits
- 2After approval, open Copilot settings from your profile menu
- 3On the GitHub Copilot Pro eligibility page, click Get access to GitHub Copilot
- 4Configure Copilot use policies and click Save and complete
