Anthropic's Claude Team plan for scientists gives research groups promotional pricing for 12 months from sign-up: standard seats are free (regularly $20 a month) and premium seats, with 5x usage limits, are $15 a month (regularly $100). Anthropic announced it on August 27, 2026 with an initial 10,000 seats for scientists around the world and said it intends to extend the program beyond that.
The plan is for principal investigators or the equivalent at accredited universities and nonprofit research institutes. The PI verifies their institutional affiliation, briefly describes the research, and then adds lab members. Groups can have 1-25 seats; larger groups should contact Anthropic. For-profit companies, contract research organizations and industry R&D teams are directed to the regular Team and Enterprise plans.
After 12 months, seats renew at the then-current price for the plan, and groups with no activity for 90 days may be returned to standard Team pricing.
